About us

Cumbernauld Trinity Parish Church was formed on 15 August 2024, by the union of Cumbernauld Old and Kildrum and St Mungo’s churches. The congregational rolls have been being merged and currently they stand at approximately 350 members. They are being reviewed on an ongoing basis. Members on the supplementary roll number 120.

Our main Diet of Worship takes place in Cumbernauld Trinity Village Church on Sunday mornings at 11.00 am and there is also a Café Church service held in St Mungo’s Hub on Sunday afternoons at 2.30pm. There has been worship in Cumbernauld Village since the 13th century and in the current church building since the mid 17th Century.

St Mungo’s Pyramid Hub is an iconic B-listed building designed by Alan Reiach. It opened in 1966 and is located one mile up the road at Cumbernauld town centre. Kildrum Parish Church opened for worship in 1964 and was a centre of worship until January 2023, following the union with St Mungo’s Parish Church.

Cumbernauld is a ‘new town’ situated near the old village of Cumbernauld. In the early masterplan neighbourhoods were clustered around the hilltop town centre. Ravenswood, Seafar and Kildrum lie to the north of the town centre and Carbrain to the south. Later neighbourhoods were developed at the Village, Greenfaulds, Condorrat, and Abronhill.

Cumbernauld is modernist in its conception. Separation of people and cars was a feature of the first town masterplan, and this influenced the development of the town. Initially the housing in these areas won awards for their innovative designs and pioneering approach to underpasses, footpaths and pedestrian bridges. However, later its architecture was criticised, and Cumbernauld has won the Carbuncle Award twice.

Recently, Cumbernauld has experienced a dramatic revival in its design reputation: it has won numerous design and environmental awards. In 2013 it won Beautiful Scotland Award for the best “Small City’. In 2017 Cumbernauld was awarded the Garden for Life Biodiversity Award.

In addition, in 2024 North Lanarkshire Council announced a major re-design of the town centre. It will create “a multi-purpose town hub which will become the lifeblood of communities and be a constant in people’s lives. The town hub will provide a range of services including education, leisure, public services, commercial opportunities and flexible workspaces, bringing communities closer in one central area.”

This has far reaching implications for the St Mungo’s Hub which will be in a prime central location within the new scheme.

Our beautiful Cumbernauld Village Church and the vibrant, modernist St Mungo’s Hub are a reflection of the town itself looking both to the future and the past.
